This layer is a point feature class that represents locations in North Carolina that were determined to be attractive bike and pedestrian destinations. The composite selection of features, used for the Strategic Prioritization Office of Transportation (SPOT) 6.0 scoring process, are categorized by type and were generated from these component data sources:

Source composite datasets are the most up to date versions available but are not guaranteed to include all features of each category type in the State of North Carolina.

Data for each category is limited to the following parameters:

Government Centers

This layer contains three types of government properties:

• City/Town Halls

• County Courthouses

• Federal District Courts and Offices

Naming schema:

• City/Town Halls are titled the name of the municipality (ex: Durham)

• County Courthouses use the title of the county followed by County (ex: Durham County)

Federal District Courts and Offices use the full name of the facility

Medical Centers

This layer includes a wide selection of facilities that are medical in nature. This includes but is not limited to the following types of facilities:

• Hospitals

• General Practice Clinics/Urgent Care

• Specialty Care Clinics

• Mental Health Clinics

• Physical Rehabilitation Centers

• Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers

• Hospice Care

• Nursing Homes and Adult Assisted Living Care

• Group Homes

• Retirement Communities

• Alternative Medicine Practices

• Religious Organizations Offering Various Services

Places of Worship

This layer includes worship centers of varying faiths. Worship centers may not be located in an institutional land use setting (church, temple etc.) but may be located on private residential sites. An attempt has been made to filter out any locations that are not truly worship centers in nature, but this layer may contain very few locations that are better defined as private religious schools, preschools, day care centers.

Schools

This layer includes public and private schools and learning centers from preschool to grade 12.

Sports Venues

This layer includes athletic and racing spectator sport venues. Venues included generally hold a capacity of greater than 2,000 and do not include the homes of college/university athletic teams unless located off campus such as World War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro.
